Mrs. Mary Ossie Snell Brown of the Bertha Community, died Saturday, October 1, 2016, a little short of her 100th birthday.
Funeral services will be 3:30 P. M. Tuesday, October 4, 2016, from Browns United Methodist Church with Reverend Marquis Wingard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the church one hour prior to service time.
Mrs. Brown was born November 2, 1916 in the Asbury Community of Dale County to the late James Ellis “Jim” Snell and Minnie Artie Phillips Snell. She married Jesse Loyd Brown in 1937. She was well known in the Bertha Community for her neighborliness. She was an accomplished quilter, homemaker, and hair stylist. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Loyd Brown; her step-mother, Laura Davis Snell; sisters, Jewel Hughes (Harry), Elna Spivey (Robert), Georgia Hughes (Floyd); brothers, Clyde Snell (Bernice), Cullen Snell (Ruth), and Thurston Snell; and a grandson, Heath Brown.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse T. and Carolyn Brown of Ozark, Jimmy and Cheryl Brown of Skipperville; grandchildren, Lori Blankenship (Mark) of Ozark, Jay Brown (Shelley) of Cullman, Alabama, Jacey Bochner of Reno, Nevada, Bart Brown (Tina) of Raleigh, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Peggy Snell of Newville. Five great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
