Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL

Mrs. Ruby Inez English Teal of Ariton, Alabama died March 11, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was 101 years young.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 13, 2017 from Skipperville United Methodist Church, where Mrs. Teal was a member, with Reverend Freddie McCain officiating.  Interment will follow in New Hope Congregational Christian Church Cemetery in Clio, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until service time.

Mrs. Teal was born February 28, 1916 in Barbour County, Alabama to the late William Daniel English and Roxie Melinda Shehane English.   She graduated from Blue Springs High School and attended South Highlands School of Nursing in Birmingham, Alabama.  She and her late husband, Sanford Eugene "Genie" Teal, a machinist with Civil Service, lived many years in Mobile, Alabama.  Upon his retirement they returned to Barbour County to own and operate Teal's Food Store.  Her strong belief in children's education led her to serve on the Barbour County Board of Education for twelve years.  Mrs. Teal's primary focus and love was her family.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved what her children loved, from fishing to watching football.  Meals at her house were based on each child or grandchild's favorite food and she loved to see them enjoy it.  Her key to longevity was staying active. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, William Eugene "Billy" Teal, Sanford Daniel "Danny" Teal, and Russell English Teal; six sisters and two brothers, Ora Tyler, Lina Holland, Claudia Linton, Julia English, Judge English, and Homer D. English.  Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jean Teal and Don Edmondson of Huntsville, Alabama; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael "Mickey" and Alice Ann Teal of the Teals Cross Road Community; daughters-in-law, Betty Teal of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Irene Teal of Mobile, and Mary Jean Schramm of Eufaula; seven grandchildren, Roxi Teal, Michael Teal, Butch Teal (Lisa), Dayna Baumgaertner (Peter), Russ Teal, Tressa Roten (Chad), and Catherine Teal.  Six great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to New Hope Congregational Christian Church, Cemetery Fund, 676 County Road 23, Clio, Alabama 36017; or to Skipperville United Methodist Church, 5088 Hwy 105, Skipperville, Alabama 36374.  Condolences may be expressed at www.HolmanFuneralHome.com.
