OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS OF OZARK   ~   334‑774‑5348


Reverend Dr. Jim H. Strength, 78, of Ozark, died Thursday, November 20, 2014, at his home. 


 Funeral services will be at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, November 23, 2014, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Reverend Dr. Hays McKay officiating.  Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Clayhatchee, Alabama, Holman Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time.


 Dr. Strength was born July 7, 1936 in Daleville, Alabama to the late Brady Lee Strength and Vastie Cobb Strength.  He was baptized, licensed to preach, and ordained in Providence Baptist Church. He graduated from Ozark High School in 1956.  Dr. Strength attended Florida Baptist Seminary, received a Master’s Degree in School Administration and Supervision and Master’s Degree as Education Specialist from Troy University, attended the Doctoral Program in Education at Mississippi State University, and received his Doctor’s Degree of Ministry from Bethany Baptist College and Seminary.  Dr. Strength taught British literature, writing and grammar at Enterprise High School for over thirty years.  He also taught at Troy University, Fort Rucker and Embry-Riddle University, Fort Rucker.   He pastored many churches including Macedonia Baptist Church near Enterprise, Richland Baptist Church,   Brundidge, and the First Baptist Church,  New Brockton. 


       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Bradley Eric Strength in 1964 and Christopher Mark Strength in 2008; one sister, Vesta Hattaway; two brothers, Ray Franklin Strength and Donald Eugene Strength.


       Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Sullivan Strength of Ozark;  one daughter and son-in-law, Freida and Ronald Mailhiot of Huntsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jon F. and Wyndi Strength, Dr. David Naaman and Angela Strength, all of Dothan; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and James Pouncey of Daleville, June and Hobson Walden of Level Plains; one brother and sister-in-law, Grady L. and Modrey Strength of Enterprise; and  six grandchildren, Kara Tutin (Dustin), Jacob Mailhiot, Tristen Strength, Jensen Strength, Tye Whatley, Madilyn Whatley, Saylor Strength, and Gabriel Strength.


           The family expresses thanks to DaySpring Hospice and FirstLight Home Care for their services and loving care.


           Memorials or donations may be made to  the Wiregrass Hope Group, Dothan; Covenant United Methodist Church, Dothan;  or the Gideon Bible Society.
