OBITUARY FROM HOLMAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS OF OZARK   ~   334‑774‑5348


SFC Edward J. Everett, (United States Army, Retired) age 82, of Ozark, died Monday, November 16, 2015, at his home.


Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Thursday, November 19, 2015, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Chaplain Phillip Durr officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 12:30 P.M. until service time.


SFC Everett was born April 10, 1933, in Newton, Alabama to the late Sollie Everett and Annie Andrews Everett.  He grew up in Ozark and attended Dale County Schools.  SFC Everett joined the Army National Guard was called to active duty in 1950.  He remained in the Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam and one tour in Korea, retiring following twenty-one years of service.  Following his military service he worked with government contractors as a Project Manager for Maintenance of Government Housing.  He was an avid Alabama football fan, fisherman and bowler.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, John Andrew Everett; and one sister, Martha Tharpe.


Survivors include his wife, Dixie Everett of Ozark; one daughter and son-in-law, Kitty and Gary Cathcart of Huntsville, Alabama; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward J. Everett Jr. and Diana, Richard J. Everett and Evelyn, Steve Everett and Paige, all of Ozark; nine grandchildren, Gary Cathcart Jr. and Melissa Edwards, Chad Travers, D. J., Tanner, Ryan, Matthew, Tullie Everett, and Rebekah Everett Roberts. Eighteen great grandchildren, a special niece, Kay Ausbon, and several other nieces and nephews also survive.


The family would like to thank the nurses of AlaCare Hospice and special caregivers Nadine, April, Tomeca, and Catherine.
