Johnnie Mae McLeod passed peacefully on Sunday December 18, 2016 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama. She was surrounded by family and caregivers during her transition from this life.
Johnnie Mae was born on November 30, 1929 in Louisville, Alabama to Johnnie and Mary “Sweet” Fountain.
Johnnie Mae was the only child born to this union.
She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. In her younger years she was a member of the Pea Creek Baptist Church, she later joined Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist where she remained a member until death. She functioned on many auxiliaries and was a member of the Senior Choir.
Johnnie Mae affectionately known as “Mul” was an excellent cook and worked, until retirement, in the cafeteria of D.A. Smith Middle School. She also served on the Food Ministry at both churches where she held membership. Mul took great pleasure in cooking for others and often hosted huge dinners for family and friends. Among her specialties were chicken and dumplings, apple turnovers, tea cakes, butternut cake and peach cobbler just to name a few.
Mul was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband Charlie McLeod, and daughter Annie Lois Hunter.
Johnnie Mae leaves to mourn her passing: two sons John L. (Lizzie Ree) Jones and Willie C. (Mae Julie-deceased) Jones both of Ozark, AL, one aunt Ellen Chamber Florala, AL; Ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of extended relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Newman Mortuary Chapel Friday, December 23, 2016 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 24,2016 in the Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark. Internment will follow in Westside Cemetery.
