Odell Hood was born on April 15, 1934 in McGhee, Arkansas to Archie and Jeannie Hood. He was one of nine children.
The family relocated to Ogden, UT around 1944. After graduating from Ogden High School, he started working for Union Pacific Railroad where he was a cook prior to joining the U.S. Army. During his military career, he served in various countries including Ethiopia, Thailand, Korea, Turkey and Vietnam.
Upon retirement, he settled down in Newport News, VA where he worked as a contracted employee for the military. One of his favorite things to do while in Hampton Roads was fishing and he could be found many times enjoying fishing weekends where he would unwind from the craziness of the world.
He enjoyed meeting people and striking up conversations to learn more about their life experiences. One of his favorite things to do was to share stories of his childhood, often telling teasing stories about his sisters and military experiences. Traveling was also a favorite past time and he would often wake up in the middle of the night to take his family on spur of the moment road trips across the USA.
Around 1983, Mr. Hood began studying with Jehovah Witnesses and dedicated his life in the year of 1989. Finding a sense of calm within the congregation, he served Jehovah as a Pioneer beginning in August of 2008 and as a Ministerial Servant beginning in December of 2009 faithfully serving until the time of his death.
On September 7, 2007 he married his love, Avelina Hood, and the two of them served Jehovah together full time.
Mr. Hood died on July 20, 2023 in Dothan Alabama at the age of eighty-nine in the comfort of his home. He is pre-deceased by his sisters Bereatha Weatherspoon, Elneazer Hood and Bobby Jean Daniels and his two children, Kim and Shonda Hood. He is survived by his sisters Bernice Clayton-Dechant, Roberta Williams, Doris Douglas, Helen Hood and brother Alvin Hood. His sons, Quinton and Derrick Hood and his daughter, Miriam ‘Mimi’ Hood. His grandchildren Warren, Damon, Terrell, Kyria and Ezekiel Hood. His great grandchildren Dominique and Kali Hood. His bonus daughter Ruby Jeffs and bonus grandchildren, Shya and Capri Jeffs.
He will be dearly missed by those he loved and those who loved him.
