SHORTERVILLE. . .Odis Lamar Buxton, a resident of Shorterville, died Sunday night, April 11, 2021, in a Dothan hospital. He was 81.


   Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 14, 2021, in the Pilgrims Rest Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Baxter officiating. Masonic Rites will be conducted at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pilgrims Rest Free Will Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Carolyn Bukszar, 1070 County Road 137, Shorterville, AL 36373.


   Mr. Buxton was born and reared in Henry County, son of the late William Martin “Dooly” Buxton and Vira Mae Woodham Buxton. He served his country in the U. S Army from 1956 until 1959.  Mr. Buxton was an active member of the Pilgrims Rest Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and lay speaker. He was also a member of the Brown’s Crossroads Masonic Lodge No. 529 and the Shorterville Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Buxton served as the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Five Star Credit Union in Dothan. He retired from the Georgia Pacific Corportation as a Maintenance Mechanic. Mr. Buxton was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Sauls Buxton, five sisters, Jimmie Buxton Jordan, Julia Florence Buxton Redden, Lula Buxton Money, Reba Buxton Adams and Vara Buxton Starling, and a brother, William Donald Buxton.


   Surviving relatives include a sister-in-law, Robin Parsons; a brother-in-law, Bobby Sauls; several nieces and nephews including, Angie Sauls and her late husband, Johnny Sauls, Erwin and Brenda Sauls, Robert and Sylvia Cummings and Randy and Jody Sauls; several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.


   The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and nurses in CCU at Southeast Health for their excellent care.
