HEADLAND…Olene Mitchell Givens, a resident of Headland, died Monday morning, April 27, 2015, at her home. She was 93.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 29, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Larry Sowell officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Mrs. Givens, a native of Shreve, Alabama, near Greenville, was the daughter of the late Jackson Lafayette Mitchell and Nellie Lee Petty Mitchell. She lived most of her lifetime in Headland where she was a member of the Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Givens was retired from WestPoint Stevens after twenty-six years employment. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Grey Givens, Sr., her son, Edward Grey Givens, Jr., sons-in-law, Harold Land, Carey Cherry, and Douglas Reynolds, three sisters and five brothers.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Shirley Cherry (Randall Head), Kinsey; Cathy McLeod (Michael), Headland; two sisters, Mary Ellen Strothers, Atlanta and Joan Glenda Fowler, Cottonwood; a brother, Larry Mitchell (Wanda), Dothan; two sisters-in-law, Marsha Mitchell and Billie Mitchell, both of Enterprise; three grandchildren, Karen Goad (Tim), Diane Eubanks (Floyd) and Jarrett McLeod; two great-grandchildren, Brandy Nicole Ridenhour (Jamie) and Jason Goad; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Floyd Eubanks, Randall Head, Jarrett McLeod, Don Hughes, Chad Hughes and Tony Wilkerson.
