Ollie Mae Adams Hutchison, 89, previously of Dothan, passed away surrounded by family on September 19, 2016 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The daughter of Fred and Ollie Terry Adams of Graceville, Florida, Ollie graduated from Graceville High School in 1944 and enjoyed attending yearly reunions. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Florida State University and her Master’s Degree in Education from Troy State University. She was a dedicated teacher for 38 years in both the Florida and Alabama school systems. Her dedication to teaching, family and God was her focus in life. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she fulfilled many leadership positions faithfully. Evidence of her faith was seen daily as she tried to lead a life dedicated to being a disciple of Jesus Christ. Ollie married Archie C. Hutchison in Panama City, FL in 1947, later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. After giving loving care to her husband for 2 ½ years through his long, debilitating illness, she served four missions for the Church following his death. She spent a year in both Laos and Vietnam as a humanitarian missionary teaching English as a second language. She experienced great joy and happiness in serving the Lord and the people of those countries. Her other full time missions were in Nauvoo, IL and the Atlanta Temple. Upon her return from her missions she was a volunteer at Southeast Alabama Regional Hospital.
Ollie is preceded in death by her husband, Archie C. Hutchison; brothers, Wilmer and Fred Adams Jr.; sister, Lucille Brewer and great granddaughter, Liesl Snow Hutchison.
She is survived by her sister, Voncille Ramirez of Panama City, FL. and 3 sons: LeGrand (Jan) of Tuscaloosa, AL.; Gary (Penny) of Newtown, CT. and Craig Hutchison of Alabaster, AL. She leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren to cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held Thursday September 22 from 6-8 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan. Services will be 11:00 Friday morning at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Jim Staheli conducting. Interment will then follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Ramirez, Ben Bendinger, Stephen NeSmith, Brent Barnes, Matt Hutchison, Garrett Hutchison, Lance Hutchison, and Thomas Hutchison.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Miller, the staffs of Morning Pointe Assisted Living and Forest Manor Nursing Home and of Hospice of West Alabama for the tender and genuine care shown to our mother as her heath declined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of West Alabama, the Humanitarian Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the charity of your choice.
