Olliev (Thompson) Trant of Geneva, Alabama, age 95, passed away on April 8, 2021. Olliev was born on June 30, 1925, to John Will and Effie (Mims) Thompson. She was the middle child of eleven children. Olliev was preceded in death by her husband, William Jack Trant; her son, Roger L. Trant; and her siblings, Willis B. “Dock” Thompson, Wilbur D. Thompson, William Franklin Thompson, Lovie Lee Bryan, Evie Treadwell, Ivey Brannon, Arvie Neel, and Lavelle Miller.
She will be remembered and missed by her children, Linda Trant (Jim) Watson, Sue Bargeron, and Sid J. (Angel) Trant; her grandchildren, Kristi Weatherford, Jay Watson, Jon Watson, Lia Bargeron, Allie Vance, and Adam Trant; and her five great grandchildren; her siblings, Doferice (Rebecca) Thompson and Dorothy McWhirter; her many nieces and nephews; and her dear friends, Lorene Crutchfield and Donna Battles. She will also be remembered by her fellow church members, her friends at Geneva Senior Citizens Center and Director Robbie Owens, and the many people she worked with over the years.
Olliev held strong Christian beliefs and lived them. She said she was preaching her sermon every day of her life.
Throughout her life she outworked everyone including the men she worked with at the cotton mill—a fact they will admit. She stayed physically fit, even after two hip surgeries, and could be seen on her morning and afternoon walks well into her nineties. On those walks she would pick wildflowers for the house. Although she loved her flowers, she was an avid vegetable gardener. She and Jack always had big gardens. After his death, she continued to grow remarkable, but small, vegetable gardens. She was a great Southern cook who showed her love to family and friends through large family meals, coconut cakes, pecan pies, blackberry pies, peanut brittle, and other assorted desserts. But most of all, she was a devoted wife to Jack; a loving, generous mother; and a doting, proud grandmother.
A family service is planned to celebrate her life with Reverend Kevin Kelley officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Geneva Senior Citizens Center, 105 N. Washington Street, Geneva, Al 36340.
