Omega “Meg” Ward

A celebration of Omega's life will be held at 11 am on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Piney Grove Assembly of God Church with Brother Billy Fortune and Brother Charles Goldsmith officiating. Omega will be laid to rest in Piney Grove Assembly of God Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, January 7, 2024, from 2-4 pm.

Omega D. Ward, known affectionately as Meg to her friends and family, passed away on January 4, 2024, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, AL, after an extended illness. Born on July 25, 1937, Omega's journey through life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and selflessness that touched everyone she knew.

The daughter of Dewey Dean and Ethel Jane Gilley Dean, Omega was a beacon of warmth in her community. She was a devoted partner to her late husband, Andrew Jackson Ward, to whom she was married for over 40 years until his passing in 1999. Together, they built a family legacy that now spans multiple generations. Omega's nurturing spirit continues to live on through her daughter, Debra (Gary) Treadaway, her son, Gerald (Sandy) Ward, her daughter-in-law, Rhonda Ward, her eight grandchildren, Holly (Jason) King, Christie (Hunter) Ellenburg, Brenton (Lori) Ward, Timothy Ward, Joseph (Christy) Ward, Tyler Ward, Justin Treadaway (Shelly), and Chelsea Treadaway, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Edward Earl Ward, and by her sisters, Hilda Mae Grantham, Monette Hayes, Betty Lou King, and Shirley Marshall.

Omega was also loved by her thirteen great grandchildren, Cash Cumbie, Rayne Treadaway, Easton King, Aubrey King, Savannah King, Hunter Copley, Jessie Smith, Preston Ward, Layla Ellenburg, Landon Ellenburg, Lane Ellenburg, Charlie Ward, and Everleigh Ward.

Omega's home was often the heart of family gatherings, where laughter and love were abundant. Her selfless nature made her the cornerstone of her family, always putting others before herself. Her creative spirit was not only seen in her crafts but also in the way she approached life, finding beauty and potential in the everyday. Cooking for her family and friends was her love language, Thanksgiving dinner, especially her dressing, was a family favorite. Omega found joy in playing cards with friends and family every chance she got.

Omega's life was a testament to the virtues of love, creativity, and selflessness. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit and the lessons she imparted will continue to guide and inspire her family and friends for generations to come. Rest in peace, dear Omega, knowing that your light will forever shine in the hearts of those you've touched.
