Orrin D. Barrett, a resident of Dothan, passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 8, 2017. He was 79.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Plummer, Rev. Henry Johnson, and Rev. Tim Willis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 3257 E. Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301.
Mr. Barrett was born in Holman, AL and lived the early years of his life in Alberta City. He attended Tuscaloosa High School and the University of Alabama. Mr. Barrett was employed with Gulf States Paper Corporation and in 1973 moved to Dothan where he attended BBI. In 1976 he moved to Mobile, Alabama and received his BS from Mobile College. Mr. Barrett would return to Dothan where he served for 3 years as Associate Pastor for Cloverdale Baptist Church, 3 years as Co-Pastor at Southern Baptist Church, and 29.5 years as Minister of Pastoral Care at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Margaret Barrett; his sons, Jeffery D. (Susan) Barrett and Thomas L. (Amy) Barrett; his grandchildren, Bailey E. Barrett and Anna S. Barrett; his sister, Linda (Tommy) Hughes; his niece, Traci Hughes; and his nephew, Greg Hughes.
