Oscar Dowling, 89, of 287 Rose Ave. Hartford, Al died Saturday March 28, 2015 at Hartford Health Care.
Graveside services will be held at 1pm Monday, March 30, 2015 at Hartford City Cemetery with Pastor Donna Cumbie officiating and under the direction of Jimmy Bottoms of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home. At other times the family will receive friends at 287 Rose Ave. Hartford.
He was born on March 14, 1926 to Willie and Claudie Dowling in Dale County Alabama. He then moved to Hartford where he finished high school. In his later years, he was instrumental in gathering multiple classes of Geneva County High for several multi-class reunions.
He served his country in WWII. He worked in many capacities in his career, ending with a 25 year stent in 1989 with the State of Alabama Department of Revenue.
He returned to his hometown after his wife of 62 years, Maunette Baggett Dowling died. He is also preceded in death by his parents; brother, JD Dowling; sister, Juanita Childs; and nephew, Steve Childs.
He is survived by his sister, Susie Nolen of Hartford; nieces, Sarah E. (Lee) Parker of Enterprise; Virginia (Russell) Sharp of Hartford; nephews, Don (Lilly) Dowling of San Antonio, Texas, Wendel (Regina) Nolen of Hartford; Great nieces, Tammy (Mike) Linker of Granbury, Texas; Amanda (Chris) Hampton of Hartford; Lynn (Cheryl) Dowling of Texas; Allison (Jim) Hudson of Texas; Lily Grace Nolen of Hartford; Great nephew, Wade (Nicole) Sharp of Enterprise; Great, Great nieces and nephews, Sarahbeth Wagner; Hannah and Edie Dowling; Preston and Gabrielle Hudson; Nicholas and Colson Sharp; Cole Linker; and Daniel Childs; also, a special friend, Emma Jean Vaughn.
The family request that flowers be omitted and donations be made to the charity of your choice.
