On Thursday, November 7, 2024, the physical life of Otho Holmes came to an end. While we loved him dearly, and will surely miss his presence, we take comfort knowing he is by the side of his wife, Wauree, and that they both are now in the care of our gracious, merciful God.
We will truly miss his loyalty, determination, steadfastness, his sense of humor, and unconditional love for his family. He was a really good salesman who worked hard to provide for his family. We remember the fullness with which he lived life: he was a pool shark! He loved fishing, hunting, and his horses. In his early years he bought a ski boat and taught himself and his children how to ski. They spent many memorable weekends at the lake. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends teasing and telling jokes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wauree Gray Holmes; his youngest daughter, Kim Gulledge; one great great granddaughter, Clara Nickole Mercer, and six siblings.
He is survived by four children, Phyllis Y. Helms (Bobby Bellman), Debbie Lee (Robert), Cheryl Norris all of Dothan, AL, and Mike Ferguson (Dana) of Hartselle, AL; five grandchildren, Bryan Norris (Mandy), John “Trey” Gulledge, Beth Gulledge, Mikayla Ferguson, and Anna Ferguson; seven great grandchildren, Hunter Mercer (Nickole), Maddie Norris, Hayden and Jada Lawson, Rosalee and Matthew Enfinger and Samuel Morris Stevens; one great great grandson, John Michael Mercer; sister-in-law, Christine Holmes Norris of Geneva, AL; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Leddon Cemetery with Dr. Ernie Gray officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing.
