HEADLAND. . .Ovie C. Jones, a resident of Headland, died Saturday morning, November 19, 2016, at his home. He was 89.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 21, 2016, in the Trinity Baptist Church with Reverend Dan Sheppard officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, P.O. Box 146, Headland, AL 36345.
Mr. Jones was a native Newville and was reared in Headland, son of the late Sam Jones and Rosa Taylor Jones. He was a 1946 graduate of Headland High School. Mr. Jones served his country in the Army National Guard which was activated into the 31st Dixie Division during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Trinity Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Treasurer. Mr. Jones owned and operated Jones Radio & T.V. Repair Shop until 1991. He enjoyed playing dominoes and watching Alabama football. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by four sisters, Lillian Wilkes, Jeanette Jones, Mary Cunningham and Rose Kerby, and four brothers, Lydman Jones, John Jones, Marvin Jones and Benny Jones.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Luvone Shelley Jones; brothers-in-law, Reverend Charles Kerby, Dothan, and Gerald Shelley (Martha), Headland; and a sister-in-law, Martha Jones, Dothan; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Mike Strickland, Kenneth Carpenter, George Adkinson, Dewey Jones, Curry Parker and Billy Jones.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Sunday School Class.
