OZARK…. Oyed F. Benton, (TSgt, United States Air Force, Retired), a resident of Ozark, died early Sunday evening, December 16, 2018 at his home. He was 87.
Celebration of Life Services, with full military honors, will be held at 9:00 A.M. Friday, December 21, 2018 in the Earl Bankston Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 8:00 until 9:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Benton, son of the late James Benton and Alice Adams Benton, was a native of Esto, Florida. In his early years, he grew up in Tavares, Florida before joining the United States Army where he served as a Military Police Officer. He later joined the United States Air Force, served in Vietnam and retired in 1971. After his military retirement, he was employed at Ft. Rucker with Civil Service in the Special Services Division. Mr. Benton attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Bonifay, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years, Mary Imogene Cooke Benton; a grandson, Benjamin Benton and two brothers, Mitchell Benton and James Benton.
Surviving relatives include his daughter, Ruby Weiss, Daleville; two sons, Russell Benton (Sherry), Oviedo, Fl. And Carton Benton (Carol), Defuniak Springs, FL; a sister, Rena Scott, Baxley, GA; five grandchildren, Daniel Benton (Serena), Rebeccah Benton, Fawn Duerst (Mark), Holly Bare, and Caitlin Benton; eight great grandchildren, Ben, Lexi, Brittany, Kody, Kristin, Monica, John, and Nic.
