Mrs. Pat Childs of Slocomb, formerly of Geneva, Alabama, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018 at the Wiregrass Medical Center at the age of 68.


Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, Alabama with the Rev. Jimmy Mashburn officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 24 at the Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.


Pat was born September 3, 1950 in Holmes County Florida to the late John Henry and Mary Etta Jackson Thomas.  She was a 1968 graduate of Ponce de Leon High School and was Miss Ponce de Leon her senior year.  She was a Geneva City Council woman for 8 years, where she served her district well, and retired from the Geneva High School lunchroom, where she was known around town as “Miss Pat” by many of the students. She was a member of the Poplar Head United Methodist Church; Pat loved to cook, she cooked at First Baptist Church of Geneva and catered many weddings and events; bake and travel, especially to South Dakota to visit her sister “Boots”.  Most of all Pat loved her daughter and two grandchildren, who was the light of her life, as well as all of her extended family.  Pat never met a stranger and always had her home open to anyone who wanted to visit.  


Preceded in death by her parents, husband Waymon Lee Childs, three sisters; Louise Mims, Lucille Mims, Debra Thomas and four brothers; John Thomas Jr., James H. Thomas, Joe Thomas and Billy Thomas.


Flowers will be accepted or donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Poplar Head United Methodist Church c/o Margie Harrison 904 N Wilson St, Geneva AL 36340 in her honor.  Family will gather at 1074 N Kelly Rd, Slocomb AL and items can be dropped off locally at the home of her sister, Margie Harrison, in Geneva. 


She is survived by her daughter and son-in law, Tammy and Dennis Bailey of Slocomb, Alabama; two grandchildren, Alaina and Jaxon Bailey; three sisters, Margie Harrison, Geneva, Alabama; Margaret Hamilton (Russ), Avon, South Dakota; Martha Sue Locklear, Westville, Florida; three sisters-in-laws, Joyce Yeomans (Johnny); Louise Childs; Ann Childs; Lynn Warren (Louis) whom she loved like her daughter and Emily and Haley Warren whom she loved as grandchildren and was lovingly known as “Memaw” and numerous nieces and nephews. 


We would like to thank Kindred Hospice, the Wiregrass Medical Center and Professional Medical Associates for the great care shown during her illness.
