Mrs. Patricia "Pat" Cox Douglass, long time resident of Dothan, AL, went home to be with the Lord September 14, 2016, after a long illness.
Visitation will be 12 noon to 1 pm Saturday September 17, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 pm in Memory Hill Cemetery, Dothan, AL with Robert Byrd directing.
Mrs. Douglass was born November 28, 1926, in Fordyce, Arkansas, to Ollie Bell Lewis Cox and Ernest Elvon Cox. She was reared in Malvern, Ark, attended Texas State College for Women and the University of Arkansas. She married Dr. H. Jennings Douglass in 1949. They moved to Dothan, AL in 1964, where they both resided until their deaths.
Mrs. Douglass was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, devoted to serving family and others. She was involved in many church and community activities including the Houston County Medical Auxiliary, United Methodist Women, hospital volunteer, mental health center volunteer, Girl Scout Leader, Sunday school teacher, school volunteer, Garden Study Club, Women's Literary Club, and Meals on Wheels.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 57 years, brother Maxwell Lewis Cox, sister in law Sue Cox, and son in law, Edward Charles Knowles.
Surviving relatives are daughters Karen Douglass Smith (Doug), Dothan, AL; Roni Douglass Knowles, Montgomery, AL; Beth Douglass Metcalf (Cam), Dothan, AL and son Doug Douglass (Joni), Dothan, AL. Nine grandchildren Emily Smith, Chase Smith, Caitlin Knowles, Michael Knowles, Anna Metcalf Stinchcum, Abby Metcalf Sheff, Audrey Metcalf Meuleman, Connor Metcalf, Lydia Douglass, eight great grandchildren, brother Robert E. Cox (Vicky) Vilonia, AR, sister in law Ileana Cox, Malvern, AR, many loving nieces and nephews and a very devoted and special friend and care giver, Sharon Cook and family.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Resource Center, 1314 Westgate Pkwy, Ste 2, Dothan, AL 36303; or Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
