DOTHAN. . .Patsy Sims Burkett, a resident of Dothan, died early Friday morning, August 21, 2020, at the home of a son in Ashford. She was 71.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 23, 2020, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Stuart Smith and Pastor Brenda Yon officiating. Burial will follow in the Christian Home Church of Christ Cemetery in Wicksburg. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rehobeth High School Band, 373 Malvern Road, Rehobeth, AL 36301.
Mrs. Burkett was born Lamar County, Alabama and reared in Ozark, daughter of the late James Loyd Sims and Dora Mae Bryant Sims. She lived in the Ozark area before moving to Dothan in 1979. Mrs. Burkett was a member of the Rocky Branch Congregational Holiness Church and was active in the Rehobeth Band Boosters. She was formerly employed by Ansell, Inc in Dothan. Mrs. Burkett was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Grover Burkett who died August 11, 2020, a sister, Mary Alice Danford and a brother, Charles Sims.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Lori Smith (Bill Stubbs), Mobile, AL; and Victoria Hallford (James), Dothan; two sons, Grover Lee Burkett (Windy), Ashford; and Paul Barnes, Dothan; two brothers, James Sims (Annick), Wicksburg; and Wayne Sims, (Jannett), Newton; seven grandchildren, Adam Smith (Amanda), Emily Lasner, Tonya Sanders (Matthew), Marc McLendon (Hannah), Brandon Burkett (Kelci), Katie Hallford and Morgan Hallford; eight great-grandchildren, LeaAnna, Savannah, Mallori, Lilliani, Jacob, Wesley, Bella and Jack; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Brandon Burkett, Adam Smith, Marc McLendon, Wesley McLendon, Matthew Sanders and William Stubbs.
