BIRMINGHAM. . .Patty Herndon, a resident of Birmingham, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 16, 2022, in a Birmingham hospital after a short illness. She was 79.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 23, 2022, in the Union Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, near Abbeville, with Mike Martin officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Safe Haven Animal Rescue Kennels (The Ark), P.O. Box 126, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Patty was a native of Abbeville, Alabama, born September 17, 1942 to her parents the late C. S. Herndon and Willie Vann Herring Herndon. She was a graduate of Abbeville High School and Judson College, Marion, Alabama. After college, she moved to Birmingham where she worked at UAB labs and later owned and operated a dress shop. Patty cared deeply for animals, her Abbeville friends, and the loved ones in her life. She was preceded in death by her brother, C. David Herndon.
Surviving relatives include her sister-in-law, Maribeth W. Herndon, Abbeville; nieces, Fran Herndon Maddox (Jeff), Nashville, TN; Rachael H. Prine (Matt), Austin, TX; great niece and great nephews, Calhoun Maddox, Vann Maddox, Bega Prine and Welby Prine. Chosen family members are Sangita and Sunny Bhagat, Birmingham, AL; Delima Bhagat, Huntsville, AL; Hemal Bhagat (Matangi), Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by her loving canine companion, “Buddy”.
