Paul A. Jacobs age 94, a resident of Elba, Alabama passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at his home. Funeral services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 14, 2021 beginning at 2:00 PM with Min. Philip Box and Dr. Tony Dye officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Hayes Funeral Home on Thursday evening, May 13, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Paul served in the United States Army during WWII, and upon returning from the war, he began a career at Ft. Rucker as a general laborer of the roads and ground crew. He excelled in his career all the way from the bottom, to supervisor upon his retirement. He was instrumental in constructing the vast road system currently being utilized on base. Eventually, the stresses of work became to much, and he was forced to retire. Soon after retirement, Paul was blessed with the birth of his first granddaughter, Hope, and this role gave him a new purpose in life. Before long, the other grands followed and his world was once again whole.
He is survived by the love of his life Bessie, which he met on Buttermilk Road, and remained married for 70 years. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory, a Daughter - Debbie Coleman, Elba, AL, Granddaughter - Haylee Coleman (Brad Grantham), Enterprise, AL, Granddaughter - Hope Boutwell (Ashley), Fort Walton Beach, FL, Grandson - Joey Jacobs, Helena, AL, Grandson - Russ Jacobs, along with Great Granddaughter - Lexi Russell Comer (Jacob), Elba, AL, Great Granddaughter - Abbie Henley, Enterprise, AL, Great Grandson - Alex Boutwell, Great Granddaughter - Alexis Boutwell, and Great Granddaughter - Avery Boutwell all of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He is also survived by a Great Great Granddaughter, Kinsleigh Comer of Elba, AL, along with his siblings, Ella Sue Shannon of Goldsboro, NC, George Jacobs of Mississippi, Harry Jacobs of Elba, AL, and Laura Jean Ziglar of Eufaula, Alabama.
Paul was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Jacobs, by his parents, Bonnie and Joseph Jacobs, a step mother, Carrie S. Jacobs, along with brothers, Fred, James, Bill, and Wayne Jacobs.
The family would like to publicly thank his caregivers, Shannon Stallworth, and Felicia Smith, along with Lisa Martin of First Choice Hospice, Dr. Gwinn, and Dr. Dyess and their staff for the dedicated care provided.
