Paul Howard Bromfield
Paul Howard Bromfield, a resident of Kinsey, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at his home. He was 82.
Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. James Sanders officiating and Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.
Mr. Bromfield was born September 17, 1929 in Stamford, Connecticut and was a graduate of Stamford High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany and earned the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Mr. Bromfield was later employed by Connecticut Power Co., beginning as a lineman, eventually co-coordinating the engineering of I-95, through Southern Connecticut. In 1957, he moved to Florida where he worked in Miami on the Jackie Gleason Show, building and designing sets. He also worked with the Miss Universe Show, several political conventions held in Miami, and the attraction of “Small World” at Disneyworld. In 1972, he opened his own Custom Interior Construction Business which he operated for several years before retiring to Dothan in 1980.
Mr. Bromfield volunteered at the Wiregrass Food Bank for 10 years and was named volunteer of the year by The Rotary Club of Dothan for 2009. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dothan where he was involved in the “In Christ’s Name Ministry.”
He is preceded in death by his parents, Llewellyn Bromfield, Jr. and Eva Poakeart Bromfield; 2 half-brothers; 1 half-sister and 1 step-brother.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly Bromfield of Kinsey; his children, Sharon Smith of Jacksonville, FL, Gary (Laurel) Bromfield of Jacksonville, FL and Glenn Bromfield of West Palm Beach, FL; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Russell of Brookfield, CT and a brother, Robert Bromfield (Elsie) of Stamford, CT; 9 nephews; 2 nieces; 2 special nieces from Dothan and their families.
