Funeral services for Pauline will be held at 2 pm on Monday, May 1, 2023, in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Jody Hughes officiating. Pauline will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Sunset Funeral Home Reception Center on Monday following the services.








Mrs. Velma Pauline Barr, a loving and selfless woman, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 28, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on April 23, 1932, in Enterprise, Alabama, Pauline was the daughter of the late Robert and Connie Danford Barnes. She is predeceased by her husband, William Barr, and by her brothers Bill, Joe, and Ray Barnes.


With a strong work ethic and a passion for helping others, Pauline worked as a secretary for the telephone company until her retirement in 1986. After retiring, she continued to use her creative talents as an event planner, specializing in weddings. Pauline was known for her attention to detail and her ability to bring people together in celebration.


Throughout her life, Pauline was an avid traveler, seeking adventure and new experiences. Her love for gardening was evident in her beautifully landscaped yard, filled with her favorite flowers that brought joy to all who passed by. Pauline's love for her family was immeasurable, and she cherished the time spent with her loved ones. Her special cookies and delicious meals were a staple at family gatherings, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.


A quote that embodies Pauline's spirit is one by Maya Angelou: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Pauline's loving and selfless nature touched the lives of many, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.


Pauline is survived by her devoted son, Duran (Tammie) Barr, and her loving daughter, Chrysta Standifer. She was the proud grandmother of Garon Standifer, Paden (Sara) Standifer, Laney (Cody) DuBose, and Courtney (Justin) Woodham. Pauline also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren, Tristan and Addison Standifer.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice in Pauline's memory. As we celebrate the life of Mrs. Velma Pauline Barr, let us remember her as a loving, creative, and selfless soul who brought joy and happiness to all who knew her.
