Pauline Elaine Dewey Cassady of Geneva, AL passed away at her home on Sunday, June 9, 2024. She was 89 years old.
“A light from our house is gone. A voice we love is stilled. A place is vacant in our hearts that can never be filled.”
No truer are these words, a light has gone out in our family. Our Monarch that built in us the same strength she processed even to the end.
From a California transplant to the dirt roads of Florida and then Southeast Alabama, she learned quick the ways of working hard to provide for her family. She deserved much more than she received throughout her life. She was a beautiful woman with eyes that smiled when she spoke.
Her purpose was raising her children to be their best. Always making sure they were loved and brought up in godly ways, good ethics and mostly, good to others.
She learned quickly that she loved the taste of southern cooking as her talents ranged from her traditional whole cakes to a 13 layered chocolate cake, a treasured delicacy during the holidays. Anything she prepared in the kitchen she did it with passion whether it was making her jellies or frying an egg, it was done to perfection.
Her mind stayed pretty clear at the age of 89, reading her emails and catching up on family affairs until her health issues caused her mind to be trapped.
She worked as a bookkeeper at different locations to include West Tex Industries. In her retirement years she enjoyed gardening. Mostly too was her Alabama football games, she was a wheel of fortune watcher, a news watcher and a phone talker with her children, starting all conversations with “hey this is mama .”
Her grandchildren were her most beautiful and precious legacy in her eyes. She would glee at the sight of those that visited from time to time. She made a beautiful family from scratch- not one child or grandchild was ever a disappointment she’d say.
Though she didn’t have a treasure of rewards and accomplishments on the wall or was her name known by everyone, she was our treasure, and we knew her.
She’ll be missed more than we even know now. Today we’re asking of her friends and family please continue to remember our mama.
