Pauline (Polly) Fleming died peacefully in her home in Sebring, Florida, on September 5, 2024 at the age of 89. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Grover Clyde Fleming, her mother, Sarah Ella Partin Russell, her father, Earl Russell, and her brother Derwood Russell, all of Jay, Florida, She leaves behind two children, Sandra Lee Fleming Bone (Bill) of Sebring, Florida and Russell Clyde Fleming (Ellen) of Rome, Georgia, as well as 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Pauline was born March 31, 1935 in Jay, Florida and graduated from Jay High School in 1952. She received her BA in education from Troy University where she met her future husband, Clyde Fleming, and then attended Auburn University where she completed her MA in education while Clyde received his BA in Architecture.
Pauline and Clyde married in 1957 and moved to Huntsville, Alabama where she was a teacher and administrator in regular education and then deaf and hard of hearing education for 35 years. After retiring in 1993, Polly and Clyde moved to Jasper, Georgia to be close to their son, Russell, and his family, and to enjoy the Appalachian mountains of Georgia and North Carolina where they loved to hike and camp. They shared a lifelong passion for traveling and saw much of the US and Canada, as well as the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. They also enjoyed several long term missionary opportunities in Alaska, New Mexico, and upstate New York after retirement. Polly and Clyde were devoted Christians and she was instrumental in starting prayer groups in their local PCA (Presbyterian Church of America) that they joined in every community they were part of. Upon her death, she was currently a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sebring, Fl. She and Clyde were doting grandparents to all of their grandchildren and great grandchildren and were the happiest when they were around the children.
A memorial service will be held in Enterprise, Alabama at the Searcy Funeral Home on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 2:00 pm with visitation at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Enterprise City Cemetery.
