Philip Martin Mixon passed away on July 17, 2024, at the age of 64 at his residence in Houston, TX where he had resided since 2013.
Born on December 18, 1959, in Dothan, Alabama, to the parents of Willie Martin Mixon and Joyce (Mims) Sherbino. Philip's life was marked by dedication and love for his family and community.
Philip graduated from Texas A&M University as a leader in the Corps of Cadets. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a dedicated director for the Boy Scouts of America, where his son Garrett achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was immensely proud of Garrett, who is currently a senior at the University of Texas at Austin. Philip's love for adventure and the outdoors led him to become a certified cross-country truck driver.
Philip was a loving father, son, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and the outdoors, but his greatest joy was spending time with Garrett. Theresa, Garrett’s Mother, was the wind beneath Garrett’s wings, Philip loved to brag and was grateful for her influence in their son's life. Where there was a Philip there was a sister Lana Leigh (Mixon) Singer, who shared every step on Philip’s path. Philip's unique sense of humor could be frustrating at times, but he always knew how to make those around him feel loved.
He is survived by his son Garrett Mixon (mother Theresa DAlessio), mother Joyce (Mims) Sherbino, sisters Gayla Mixon, Lana Leigh Singer, and Shana Dice (husband Guy), nephews Lance Thompson (wife Kaitlyn) and Carson Roper, nieces Katelyn Lewis (husband Bailey and their children Kollyns and Baker) and Victoria Volkert. He is also survived by many extended family members, including aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Philip was preceded in death by his father Willie Martin Mixon, stepfather Sonny Sherbino, and nephew Landon A Thompson.
Philip will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew and loved him.
