Phillip Terrance Creel, Sr passed away on March 29, 2017. He was 74 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Graveside at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson directing. The family will receive friends and family at Ward Wilson Funeral home on April 1, 2017 from1:00pm til 2:00 pm.
Coach Creel was born on March 29, 1943 in Dothan, Alabama. He attended Dothan High School where he excelled in football. He was named an All-American and was named Captain and Most Valuable Player at Dothan High. He also played in the high school all-star game. In 1961, Phillip signed a football scholarship with Auburn playing quarterback for the Tigers. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Auburn in Secondary Education in 1965. He started his coaching career at Troy State University in 1966 and served on the Troy staff until 1974 helping them to the NAIA championship in 1968. While at Troy State, Phillip earned a Masters in Education. He returned to his alma mater as Athletic Director and head football coach. Later, Phillip accepted an assistant football coaching position at Milton High School in Milton, Florida, where he retired after teaching and coaching for 48 years. He was proceeded in death by his parents Eletous and Hazel Creel; Larry Creel (brother). He is survived by his wife Judy of 32 years; his sons, Terrance (Georgia) Creel of Dothan, Alabama, Keith (Reta) Creel of Dothan, Alabama, and Jonathan Creel of Los Alamos, New Mexico; 5 grandchildren, Peyton, Jaci, Grayson, Taylor and Sophie; his brother Ray Creel of Ludowici, Georgia; several nieces and nephews.
