Phyllis A. Green, of Dothan, passed away at home on Monday, September 12, 2016 and celebrated her 100th birthday in the arms of her Savior.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 at St. Columba Catholic Church with Rev. Johnny Celzo officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing. Entombment will follow at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Thursday evening with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Flowers (live plants) will be accepted or memorials may be made to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, 1465 S. Grand Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63104.
Mrs. Green was born September 12, 1916 in St. Louis, MO to the late Frank and Josephine Gulisano Alongi. She worked as a secretary with the federal government for 30 years and was then blessed to enjoy 45 years of retirement. Mrs. Green resided in St. Louis for over 80 years before moving to Dothan in 2000 to live with her daughter and family. She was an active member of the Dothan Newcomers Club. She enjoyed playing Bridge and Canasta with friends and she loved to dance. Mrs. Green was always learning something new even in her advanced years. She was a devout Catholic and was an inspiration to all she met during her century of life. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Green and three brothers.
Survivors include her daughters, Rosemary Jackson (Ken) and Jane Brody; 4 grandchildren, Jeremiah Jackson (Jennifer), Brian Jackson (Stephanie), Amy Yannotta (Mark), and Brandon Franz; 5 great grandchildren, Suzanna, Julia, Korbin, Kyra and Evie; and several nephews.
