Qua Thi Troung Duong, 77, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away at her home on Friday, December 8, 2017. She passed from this life surrounded by loved ones following a long hard-fought battle with colon cancer.
She was born on April 14, 1940, in Binh Dinh, Vietnam. Qua and her family were refugees of the Vietnam War. Together with her husband they fled their home country bound for America with nothing but their children and each other, including a 3 month old baby. Motherhood came naturally for Qua as she navigated a new life in America, struggling to acclimate herself to a new language and culture, all while managing to work two jobs to support her family. Qua married her husband, soulmate, and partner in life, “Otis” Ut Van Duong in 1963. For the next 54 years, she instilled the values and culture she left behind to her children and taught them how to be kind and selfless sons and daughters. By 1981 Qua and Otis would be proud parents to seven children, four daughters, and three sons. The fruits of her sacrifices are her children and everything they are and everything they have today is because of this courageous, selfless woman we are lucky enough to cal Mom.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years Otis Duong, her 7 children (4 girls and 3 boys), 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Service will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home from 11 am to 12:30 P.M. and will be laid to rest at 1 P.M.
