ECHO COMMUNITY. . . R L Prater, a resident of the Echo Community, died Sunday night, July 16, 2017, at his home. He was 81.
The family will receive friends at the family residence, 1109 County Road 83, Newville, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 18. Burial will be at Jenny Lind Cemetery, Greenwood, Arkansas at a later date. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 3286 County Road 83, Newville, AL 36353.
Mr. Prater, son of the late Floyd Dale Prater and Rosie Cauthren Prater, was born in Brent, Oklahoma and raised in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He also lived in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Echo in 2007. Mr. Prater was an over the road truck driver and retired after forty one years employment and was awarded for driving four million accident free miles. He had a love for baseball having grown up a St. Louis Cardinals fan and later becoming a Chicago Cubs fan. Mr. Prater enjoyed his family, along with his grandchildren, fishing, gardening, and loved animals. He was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Prater was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty one years, Hazel Henderson Prater; a daughter, Kelly Faulkner (David), Echo; two sons, Ron Prater (Patty), Evergreen, Colorado, Kenneth Prater (Rhonda), Ft. Edward, New York; a sister, Carolyn Garris, Muldrow, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Jessica Firkins (Jake), Joshua Prater (Kristin), Caleb Prater (Mary), Jesse Prater, Zachary Prater (Kate), Holly Meyers (Buck), Brianne Money (Dillon), Mallorie Hinson (Michael), Freddy Roberts (Rebecka); thirteen great-grandchildren, Hannah, Zachary, Isabella, Isaiah, Israel, Audie, Kinsington, David, Ella, Eli, Mollie, Dawson, and Milo.
