R. Ray Smith
R. Ray Smith, 82 of Columbia, Alabama passed away early morning on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, after a lengthy battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s. He passed at home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 2:00 P.m. at Family First Funeral Care Chapel (965 Woodland Drive. Dothan). Visitation will be Friday October 22, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at Family First Funeral Care.
In Mr. Smith’s early years, he enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and going to yard sales. The highlight of Mr. Smith’s week would be Saturday nights when he and Edith got to keep Justyn and Macy. They would go out to supper and then to rent a movie to go home and watch. This was his plans every Saturday night.
Mr. Smith & Jeff owned and operated Smith & Son Garage in Ashford, AL for many years. He ended up having to retire in 2013 due to complications from Dementia. Mr. Smith enjoyed his job and the many friends he made throughout the years. He appreciated all his customers and always helped anyone who needed it. Therefore, he kept the same customers for years and kept getting new ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Lee, and Katie P. Smith, 1 son; Dennis Ray Smith (“Dennie Ray”), one brother; Eugene
Smith, one sister, Johnnie Bell Blocker, and the man he considered his dad: William Corey.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Edith, son; Jeffery, and Jeffery’s wife Sandy, whom Mr. Smith considered his daughter and loved her dearly. Grandchildren; Sean and Steven Smith of Zephyrhills, FL, Justyn, and Macy Smith, of Columbia, AL. Two great grandchildren; Kylie and Andrew Smith, his younger brother Red Smith of Dothan, AL and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
