Ralph A. Whitley, Sr.

Ralph A. Whitley Sr., 83, of Auburndale, FL, and formerly of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in Auburndale.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Coley M. Holloway officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.

Mr. Whitley was born in Douglas, GA to Johnny and Beulah Bray Whitley and lived in Dothan for over 30 years. He was a resident of the Auburndale area for the past 21 years. He was a retired signalman for the CSX Railroad and a member of the Westwood Missionary Baptist Church in Winter Haven. He enjoyed fishing and walking around town.

Mr. Whitley was preceded in death by his first wife, Ernestine Whitley and a daughter, Frieda K. Fulcher.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Whitley of Auburndale, FL, a son, Ralph A. Whitley Jr.; 2 daughters, Darlene Whitley and Tina Whitley McWaters, all of Newton; stepdaughters, LaJoy Ann Collins, Jane C. Elroy, Roxanne Maxson and Sue Ellen Hall; a stepson, Harry M. George; 5 grandchildren; 16 step grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and 8 step great- grandchildren.
