NEWVILLE. . .Randall Keith “Randy” Whitehead, a resident of Henry County, north of the Tumbleton Community, died early Wednesday evening, February 13, 2019, in a Dothan hospital. He was 69.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 16, 2019, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend James E. Ward, Jr. and Darden Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Hospital of Alabama, “In Memory of Christopher Whitehead”, 1600 7th Avenue, South, Birmingham, AL 35233.
Randy Whitehead was a lifelong resident of Henry County, son of the late Woodrow Wilson Whitehead and Julia Kist Whitehead. He served his county in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit. Randy was retired as the owner and operator of Randall Whitehead Construction Company. In earlier years, he was employed by A. W. Herndon Oil Company and at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant as a carpenter. Randy was of the Baptist Faith. Randy was preceded in death by three brothers, David Whitehead, Larry Gillespie and Donald Kist, a special grandmother, who helped raise Randy, Vassie Whitehead; and a son-in-law, Eddie Sanders.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Shirley Windham Whitehead; a daughter, Shanda Sanders, a son, Keith Whitehead, both of Newville; and special son, Gregory “Scooter” McCain and his family, Dothan; three sisters, Marjorie Turner, Shirley Money (Russell), Abbevlle; and Della Searcy (Tommy), Shorterville; two brothers, William “Doc” Whitehead (Nora), Headland; and Tim Whitehead (Yvonne), Newville; two grandchildren, Kaileb Hall and Blaisen Whitehead; special family member, Gail Rollins, Abbeville; sister-in-law, Anne Bond; and brother-in-law, Robert Windham (Diane).
Serving as active pallbearers will be Clarence Brown, Roy Dean Smith, Gary Knight, Mickey Walker, Ronny Whitehead and Alan Bond.
