RAYBON BEASLEY HARTZOG
HEADLAND . . . Raybon Benton Beasley Hartzog, a resident of Headland, died early Friday morning, June 22, 2012, at her home. She was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, June 24, 2012, in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church of Headland conducted by Reverend Norman C. Simmons and Tim Gay. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the Ministry Center of the church.
Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Headland “Music Fund”, 301 East Church St., Headland, AL 36345 or to the Blanche Solomon Memorial Library, 17 Park Street, Headland, AL 36345.
Mrs. Hartzog was born and reared in Newton, Alabama, daughter of the late Pascal Eugene Benton and Mary Belle Lindsay Benton. She was a 1943 graduate of Newton High School and attended Troy State Teachers College. In earlier years, Mrs. Hartzog taught elementary education at Newton, Pinckard and Headland. She lived most of her lifetime in Headland but also lived in Eufaula from 1988 until 1998 when she returned to Headland. A member of the Headland Study Club, Mrs. Hartzog was also member of the First Baptist Church of Headland, the Joy Sunday School Class and was a former member of the Chancel Choir. She and her late husband, Morton Beasley owned and operated the Headland Piggly Wiggly for twenty years. While living in Eufaula, Mrs. Hartzog was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eufaula and participated in the Camerata Singing Club of Eufaula. She served the Southeast Alabama Medical Center as a volunteer for several years.
Mrs. Hartzog was preceded in death by her husbands, Jessie Morton Beasley and Grady Cletus Hartzog, three sisters, Jean Benton Innskeep, Mary Benton Hawkins and Zula Benton Otterberg and a brother, Pat Lindsay Benton.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Gayle Beasley Farrar and husband, Dr. Joe Farrar, Hendersonville, N.C.; a son, Benton Morton Beasley and wife, Jan Phillips Beasley, Headland; four grandchildren, Ben Beasley, Betsy Beasley Wright and husband, Dr. Clay Wright, Morgan Farrar King and husband, Ben King and Grayson Israel Farrar; three great-grandchildren, Clara Wright, Coleman Wright and Emma Beasley; a sister, Maurine Benton Edwards, Pinckard; loving family members Grady and Mary Hartzog, Eufaula; sisters-in-law from the Beasley family, Eddis McNab and Mary Perry, both of Dothan.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Bob Frank Williams, Mac Davis, Bill Barnes, Fred Cunningham, Dr. Roland Bridges, Terrell Hinson and her nephews, Steve Benton, Bill Edwards, Michael Nelson and Richard Otterberg.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Covenant Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Hartzog during her illness.
Heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Hartzog’s daily caregivers at home: Valerie, Dorothy, Betty, Tisha, Hope and Megan.
