ABBEVILLE. . .Raymond Andrew Herrin, Sr., a resident of Abbeville, Alabama, died early Friday morning, August 11, 2023, in Medical Center Barbour in Eufaula. He was 81.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. (C.D.T.), Tuesday, August 15, 2023, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 272 Highway 131, Eufaula, AL 36027, with Bishop Jeff Johnson and Brother Gerald Carroll officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow at 1:30 P.M. (EDT), Tuesday, in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, AL 36302.
Mr. Herrin was born and reared in Homerville, Georgia, son of the late Hoke Smith Herrin and Cleo Corbitt Herrin. He was a graduate of Clinch County High School. Mr. Herrin enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country twenty-seven years during the Vietnam War era. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Master Chief (E-9). After retirement from the military, he owned and operated Herrin & Sons, Inc., a trucking and construction company in Summerville, S.C. Mr. Herrin lived in various locations in the United States while serving in the Navy and also Summerville, South Carolina before moving to Henry County, Alabama in 2013. He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Eufaula and the American Legion in Abbeville. Mr. Herrin was preceded in death by four brothers, Bruce, Dick, Robin and Gary Herrin.
Surviving relatives include his wife, D Jean Sirmans Herrin; two sons, Ray Herrin, Jr. (Jakki), Headland and Jerrod Herrin, Abbeville; three sisters, Janice Harper (John), Homerville, GA; Jackie Cribbs (Lester), Pearson, GA; and Mid Briley, Homerville, GA; two brothers, John Herrin (Terri), Dublin, GA; and Dwight Herrin (Brenda), Blackshear, GA; four granddaughters, Kylie Herrin, Jordan Rice (Sam), Kaytlan Herrin and Tiffany Herrin, seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
