COLUMBIA…Raymond Douglas (Ray) Arnett, a resident of Columbia, died Wednesday morning, August 27, 2014, at his home. He was 76.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M Saturday, August 30, 2014 in the Ebenezer Baptist Church with Reverend Don Tew and Reverend Vann Cooley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3894 Ebenezer Road, Columbia, AL 36319.


            Mr. Arnett was born in New Port Richey, Florida, son of the late Raymond Leland Arnett and Mollie Aline Cameron Arnett. He moved with his family to Dothan as a child and had lived in Columbia since 1964. Mr. Arnett retired from Russell Mills, and in earlier years, worked for Judy Bond Blouse Company, both in Columbia. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and formerly served as a Deacon in the First Baptist Church of Columbia.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-eight years, Martha McCord Arnett, Columbia; two daughters, Angela Arnett Carpenter (Alan), Luverne, AL; Kelly Arnett Carter (Art), Columbia; a sister, Linda Jenkins (Bruce), Houston, AL; a brother, Billy Arnett, Midland City, AL; three grandchildren, Jessica Carpenter Miller (Wes), Foster Carpenter (Mallory), and Mollie Carter.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Alan Carpenter, Art Carter, Foster Carpenter, Wes Miller, Frank Griffith, Glen Elmore, Greg Peeples, and Royce Ingram.
