Raymond Edward McCoy, Jr., age 45 of Ashford passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at a local hospital following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Raymond will be held at 1pm Saturday, October 12, 2019 in the Family First Funeral Care chapel with Pastor Mike Robinson officiating and a nephew, Ray Johnson will deliver the eulogy. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in the church cemetery, with Greg Leger speaking. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, October 11, 2019, beginning at 5pm at Family First Funeral Care. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Rocky Creek United Methodist Church, 3146 Creek Church Road, Ashford, AL 36312.
Raymond was born November 12, 1973 in Gainesville, Florida, to the late Raymond McCoy, Sr. and Joan Thompson McCoy. His early life was spent in Florida before moving to Alabama. Raymond graduated from the Coffee Springs High School, where his jersey number was “60” when he played football for the Golden Bears. After high school, he joined the Army, where he dutifully served our country. Raymond and his family moved to Ashford 14 years ago where he lived for the remainder of his life and was of the Baptist faith. For many years he was a truck driver for Helena Chemicals. He was an avid fan of anything “Florida Gators”, fishing and football. He was especially involved in Little League sports, coaching and cheering his children, and all children that were participating. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Tiffany McCoy of Ashford; a daughter, Cailyn McCoy of Dothan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Keith (Christen) McCoy of Ashford, PFC (USMC) Gabe McCoy, Camp LeJeune, North Carolina; his mother, Joan Thompson McCoy of Dothan; three sisters, Kaye Lofton of Mobile, Tina Burch of Dothan and Kristie Wendell of Camden; three grandchildren, Caylen Spurlock, Bryleigh McCoy and Delevin McClendon. Also surviving is his best friend of many years, Greg Leger of Russellville, Arkansas and his special Jack Russell K-9 companion, “Pup”.
