Raymond Ray Barnes was born January 6, 1965 in Houston County, Alabama to Raymond and Betty Barnes. He grew up in Webb, Alabama but spent the latter portion of his life in Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 19, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 5-7pm.
Ray was a 1983 graduate of Houston County High School. On November 12, 1986, he enlisted in the United States Army where he was assigned to the 31st Maintenance Company at Ft. Irwin, California as a 62F10-Crane Operator. After he left the military, Ray became a truck driver. Driving big trucks was more to him than a job; it was a lifestyle. Going by the call name “Deuce and a Quarter,” Ray enjoyed driving all over the country and meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures. He often called his family to talk about all the wonders he encountered on the open road and acted as the family navigation system before Google Maps, making sure that his loved ones always made it safely to their destinations.
In 2013, he met Maria Teresa Lozano, and they wed on November 14, 2019. She remained his loving and devoted companion until he departed this life on September 10, 2020.
Ray leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Teresa “Terry” Barnes; his mother, Betty Barnes; sons: Raymond Baker, Ryan Barnes, Jeremiah Barnes, Damien Barnes, and William Barnes; his daughter Jessica Rae Barnes; step-children: Angela Guerra, Raul Guerra III, Samuel Guerra, and Nathaniel Guerra; brothers: Rex (Denise) Barnes, Rickey (Raymona) Barnes, Kenneth Daniels, and Marcus (Tonja) Minnifield; sisters: Crystal (Ray) Williams, Retha Barnes, Stephanie Durham, and Reva Barnes; 10 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Ray is predeceased by his father, Raymond Barnes.
