Reba O. Howell McDuffie of Samson passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014. She was 91. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the Samson First Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Totten and Minister Harry O. Adkison officiating. Burial will follow in Travelers Rest Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday beginning at 12:30 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Samson First Baptist Church Building Fund, 100 W. Main St. Samson, AL 36477, or to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Rd, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mrs. McDuffie was born in Samson, Ala. on January 4, 1923 to the late James Hollis Owens and Lilly Bell Weeks Owens. She was a longtime member of the Samson First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Samson Garden Club for many years. She worked as the school secretary and bookkeeper for Samson High School, and later worked as secretary and receptionist for Dr. Hoyt Childs. She and her late husband owned and operated the Top Drive-in Theatre for more than twenty-five years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marcus Fox Howell; and eight siblings.
She is survived by her husband, Hurshel McDuffie of Samson; son, Kenn Howell of Opp; daughter, Martha Fisher (Frank) of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Mark Howell (Erin), Lance Howell, Kristina Milling (Jamie), Mona Ponder (Mel), William G. “Bill” Kilpatrick (Christina), Maryfaith “Maggie” Jowers (Terence) and Jessica McCarty (Hal); seventeen great grandchildren; brother, Hollis Owens of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Betty Thompson of Samson, Sybil Alford of Ashford and Earline Wilson of Dothan.
