CW4 (Ret.) Render Charles “Bob/RC” Guinn of Enterprise, AL passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012 after an extended illness at his home. He was 78.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Thursday, June 14 at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise with Rev. Gary Woodard and Chaplain (COL-R) Sonny Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 1 until 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Enterprise or Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Guinn was born March 3, 1934 in Hogansville, GA to the late Huey and Nancy Eugenia Moates Guinn. His career started with him joining the National Guard from 1951 – 1953. He then joined the army in 1953 until he retired in 1974, with 22 years of service. He was also a parachutist in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC, where he met and married Imogene Matthews Guinn on June 23, 1957. During his distinguished Army career, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star on the same day, Broken Wing Award, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Air Medal with many clusters. He was a Master Aviator in both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. Following his retirement, his career continued in the office of Accident Prevention and Investigation. While working with the Army Safety Center, he was called for by name to help with the Challenger accident, which was probably the highlight of his career, and was awarded DOA Commanders Award for civilian service.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Laura Imogene Guinn, Enterprise, AL; son, David Guinn (Ronda), Westmoreland, TN; daughter, Susan Smith (Kenneth), Enterprise, AL; sister, Judi Woodard (Gary); brother, Gerry Nottleson (Sharon); 4 grandchildren: Amber Hyatt, SGT Thomas Spearman (Mallory), Matthew Smith, Megan Smith; 3 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
