Retired Lt. Colonel Ira Kenneth “Ken” Jones of Geneva, AL went to his heavenly home on Sunday, May 21, 2023. He was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Tony Rosetta officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Geneva, AL and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 2:00 p.m. and continuing until service time. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to The American Legion Post-Geneva, AL or to Geneva First Methodist Church, P.O. Box 517, Geneva, AL 36340.
Ken was born in Geneva County, AL on February 18, 1944 to the late John Paul and Sally Lou Davis Jones. Ken served his country honorably in the Alabama National Guard and retired as Lt. Colonel. He was an active member of the American Legion Post in Geneva, AL. He was employed with Clinton Mills until his retirement in 2000. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, traveling and spending quality time with his family. Ken is best known for being the owner and operator of The Gun Barn in Geneva. He was a dedicated and active member of the Geneva First Methodist Church. Ken was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother and a true friend to many.
Ken is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Janice Motley Jones of Geneva, AL; one daughter, Kendra Jones Smoker (Kevin) of Thomasville, AL; one son, Kenneth Lance Jones (Shanna) of Pelham, AL; five grandsons, Sage Smoker (Tiffany) of Camden, AL, Zach Smoker (Chelsea) of Thomasville, AL, Spencer Smoker of Auburn, AL, Trevor Jones of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Trent Jones of Pelham, AL; four great grandchildren, Win, Brynlee, Eli and Landon Smoker; one brother, Gary Jones (Dolores) of Slocomb, AL; three sisters, Ann Jones Campbell (Jim) of Hartford, AL, Jane Ausley of Dothan, AL and Sharon Brainerd (John) of Navarre Beach, FL; best friend, Glen Hammond of Geneva, AL and special friends, Jeff and Amy Gray (and boys) of Geneva, AL and a number of special nieces and nephews.
