Obituary: Rev. Gary Edward Barley
Rev. Gary Edward Barley of Bonifay, FL went home to be with the LORD, Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Flowers Hospital. He was 79.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Mt. Zion Independent Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Foster, Bro. Scott Roper, and Bro. Steve Boroughs officiating. Interment will follow in the Gaskin Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Bro. Barley was born November 12, 1941 in Gaskin, FL to the late Jerome and Claudie Gainey Barley. He spent most of his life working in the citrus business as well as serving in ministry. For most of his career, he managed citrus packing companies, having retired from Orange Ring in Haines City, FL after nearly 30 years of service. Although he enjoyed working in this industry, his passion was his ministry. After being ordained at the age of 35, he spread the good news of God’s gospel across the southeast, helping win many souls to Christ along the way.
In addition to his parents, his loving wife of 59 years, Ella Barley; siblings: James Barley, Max Barley, Buck Casey, Dawson Peacock, Joyce Peacock, and Jeanette Barley; and nephew, Keith Barley all preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Claudia Virginia Hatton (Ronald); grandchildren: Shawna Nelson (Matthew), and Kristen Day (Dalton); great grandchildren: Logan, Fintan, and Daxton; siblings: Eddie Gene Barley (Judy), Vonnie Peters, and Clawson Peacock; nephew, Robert Barley (Katherine); and many other extended family and friends.
