Rev. George Alden Pabody, 82, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012 at Signature Healthcare at the Courtyard in Marianna, FL.
Funeral Services will be held 4 pm Friday, May 11, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home with Steve Pabody officiating and will be laid to rest in Mayville, New York. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Pabody was born on November 26, 1929 in New York. At four, George began first grade in a one room schoolhouse located on the corner of his parent’s 200 acre farm where he completed grades 1-8. At 13, he entered Mayville Central High School and graduated in 1946, at 16. Upon feeling the call to preach, he enrolled in Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC in 1948. He travelled to various churches in Tennessee and Kentucky to preach on the weekends while still in school and was also involved in Youth for Christ Ministries. He left school in the early 50’s to take his first pastorate in Westfield, NY where he stayed until leaving in 1958 to complete his studies at Bob Jones. He received his bachelor of arts in Bible in September of 1959. He pastored Boone’s Creek Bible Church, Boone’s Creek, TN, Harvest Time Church in Johnson City, TN, and then started Grace Baptist Church in Johnson City. After 8 years of successful growth in Grace Baptist, he moved back to western New York to pastor First Baptist Church of Randolph where the congregation grew to where they purchased different property and built a larger building. He pastored the Oak Creek Baptist Church in Milwaukee, WI, and then Central Baptist Church of Dothan, AL. After retiring from Central Baptist he began to hold evangelistic meetings in various churches across the United States, as well as British Columbia, Romania, and Puerto Rico. He also filled the pulpit for the Westgate Baptist Church, formerly Grace Bible in Dothan until they were able to find a pastor, and the Faith Baptist Church in Enterprise.
A special thank you to the folks at Central Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Enterprise, and Westgate Baptist Church for their prayers and many ways of expressing their love and concern. And a special thank you to the Emerald Coast Hospice and Signature Healthcare at the Courtyard in Marianna for their diligent and loving care.
