WEBB, AL….Reverend Wallace M. Duke, a resident of Webb, Alabama, died Friday morning, December 2, 2011, in the Washington Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Chipley, Florida. He was 80.


           


Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, December 4, 2011, in the Center Baptist Church, near Webb, with Reverend Marcus Murdock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.


           


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Center Baptist Church, P.O. Box 129, Webb, AL 36376 or to the Wiregrass United Way 2-1-1, 545 West Main Street, Suite 313, Dothan, AL 36301.


           


Rev. Duke was born in the Pleasant Plains community and was reared in the Center community, near Webb, son of the late Evitus Lee Duke and Lennie Mae Durden Duke. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Rev. Duke was a graduate of the Florida Baptist Theological Seminary in Graceville, FL where he received his degree to become a Southern Baptist Minister. He served several Baptist Churches in Southeast Alabama and also a church in Valley, AL as a Baptist Minister. Rev. Duke was a member of the Center Baptist Church. He formerly served as a Chaplain at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center and also for the Houston County Rescue Unit. In later years, Rev. Duke was employed by the Houston County Board of Education as a school bus driver. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Jackson Duke, a son, Phillip Marvette Duke, Sr., two brothers, Rudolph Duke and Wayne Duke.


           


Surviving relatives include his wife, Nell White Duke, Webb; a daughter, Sylvia Walker (Terry), Dothan; two sons, Timothy P. Duke (Linda), Louisville, KY; and David E. Duke, Dothan; two step-sons, Tim Suggs (Cecelia), Headland; Paul Suggs, Dothan; two sisters, Emily Tooke Murphy (Tommy Dan), Dothan; and Betty Mills (Billy), Enterprise; three brothers, Thomas Duke (Bonnie), Junction City, Kansas; Harry Duke (Ouida), Webb; and Ricky Duke, Webb; sister-in-law, Kay Duke, Enterprise; four grandchildren, Tara Henderson (Jed), Phil Duke (Shon), Hope Walker and T.J. Walker; six step-grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, Noah, Dylan, Cody and Callie Suggs; a great-grandson, Gavin Henderson; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.


           


Serving as active pallbearers will be Matt McCraney, Byron Ingram, T.J. Walker, Phil Duke, Jed Henderson and Kevin Duke.
