Rev. Clayton M. “Pete” Blackshear
Rev. Clayton M. “Pete” Blackshear, of Cowarts passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 88.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at Cowarts Baptist Church with Rev. Coley Holloway, Rev. Johnny Roberts and Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Cowarts Baptist Church Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 9-10 a.m. Friday prior to service time.
Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Cottonwood or Cowarts Baptist Church in Cowarts.
Rev. Blackshear was born October 6, 1926 in Blakely, Georgia and lived all of his life in Ashford and Cowarts. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with Civil Service at Ft. Rucker for over 30 years prior to his retirement.
Rev. Blackshear served as a Baptist minister in Georgia and Alabama for over 50 years. He was currently serving as associate pastor of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Cottonwood and was a member of Cowarts Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary Still Blackshear of Cowarts; three children, Debra Crosby (Gene) of Ashford, Clifford Blackshear (Barbara) of Macclenny, FL and Amy Blackshear of Cowarts; three grandchildren, Tennille Crosby, Clayton Blackshear (Tabitha) and Amber Dasinger (Dallis); five great grandchildren, Keirstan, Zoey and C. J. Blackshear, Alekzander Blackshear and David Dasinger; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Gina Still.
