Reverend Garner Wood, a resident of Ashford, died early Friday afternoon, October 21, 2016, in the emergency room of a Dothan hospital. He was 74.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 24, 2016, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Coley M. Holloway officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery with Reverend Ray Cobb officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Old Webb Road Baptist Church, c/o Amy Odom, P.O. Box 118, Ashford, AL 36312.
Reverend Wood was born in Daleville and was reared in Newton, son of the late J. C. Wood and Mary Glover Wood. He attended Newton School and later received a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Southwest Bible College and Seminary. Reverend Wood was currently serving as Pastor of the Old Webb Road Baptist Church. He formerly served as Pastor of the Gordon Baptist Church and the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. In earlier years, Reverend Wood was employed by Paige Aircraft at Ft. Rucker and also worked as a life insurance agent. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Wood, and two brothers, Robert Wood and Jack Wood.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Rebecca Newton Wood; a daughter, Pam Campbell (Robbie), Dothan; two sisters, Margaret Ward, Dothan; and Betty Johnson, Abbeville; a brother, Bernis Wood, Frostproof, FL.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jerry Tew, Joel McNeill, Ray Odom, Tim Hopkins, Bill Crosby and Ben Lucas.
