Reverend Griel D. Smith of Hartford, Alabama, died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Noland Health Services at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.


Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Dothan Church of God with Reverend George Ellison and The Administrative Bishop Dr. Raymond Cullpepper officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.


Born in Butler County, Alabama, Griel was a son of the late Perry Tawson and Katie Lou Smith. Pastor Smith served as a Church of God Minister from 1974 until his retirement in 2002 and is a member of the Dothan Church of God.


In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Smith and two sisters, Myra Till and Ruby Jackson and a grandson, Collin Dempsie Smith.


 Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Mathews Smith, Hartford, Al; two sons Glenn D. Smith and wife Deborah, Daphne, Al; Ashley D. Smith, Hartford, Al; two daughters, Charline S. Dunn and husband James, Geneva, Al, Lacinda Woodall and husband Tim, Scottsboro, Al; five brothers, Leo Smith, Ashford, Al, Carl Smith, Brewton, Al, Jack Smith, Willie Mack Smith and Vernon (Duck) Smith all of Greenville, Al; a sister, Ethleen Gibson, Mobile, Al, grandchildren, Jake Dunn, Chasity Herman, Brian and Reese Smith, Avery, Tawson, and Lauren Woodall, Madaline , Abigail and Elijah Smith; three great grandchildren, Parker, Jameson and Olivia Herman.
