NAPIER FIELD. . . Reverend James A. Deese, a resident of Napier Field, died Wednesday afternoon, March 14, 2018, at his home. He was 65.
Funeral services will be held at11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 17, 2018, in the Holman Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Larry Sowell and Reverend Joey Pettis officiating. Burial will follow in the Midland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for funeral expenses, 128 Banner Street, Dothan, AL 36303.
Reverend Deese was born and reared in Midland City, son of the late Edgar Deese and Mary Evelyn Kennedy Deese. He lived in Napier Field most of his adult lifetime. Reverend Deese served his country in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit. He formerly served as the Pastor of First Free Will Baptist Church of Sneads, FL; First Free Will Baptist Church of Malone, FL; Pine Hills Free Will Baptist Church, Dothan; Magnolia Free Will Baptist Church, Midland City; and Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Headland where he was also a member. Reverend Deese was also formerly employed by General Cigar. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Allen Deese and a brother, David Paul Deese.
Surviving relatives include his wife Lynda Yates Deese; a son, Steven Deese (Lynn), Ashford; a sister, Patsy Williams (Joey), Fadette; three brothers, Larry Deese (Barbara), Warner Robins, GA; Wayne Deese, Ozark; Bobby Deese (Lafaye), Taylor, AL; two grandchildren, Preston Still and Colin Still.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bart McWaters, Ryan Love, Michael Harper, Ed York, Preston Still and Matthew Vinson.
