Reverend Jimmy L. Maddox, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019 at his home. He was 75.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Thursday, May 23, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Bynum officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 6-8 pm.
Reverend Maddox was born on October 8, 1943 in Columbus, Georgia to Alvin and Ollie Maddox. Later in his teen years, his family moved to Dothan and he attended Dothan High School. After high school, he began working in the family business. A few years later, he started working for Georgia Highway Express. In 1973, he attended Baptist Bible Institution. Once finished with school, he worked as a sales rep for E.E. Bentley and began pastoring for churches. He pastored for 8 different churches from 1976 to 2006. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching Alabama football, fishing, and playing his bass guitar. He was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Dothan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Ollie Maddox; brother, Johnny Maddox; sister, Lily Jane Maddox; and one granddaughter, Leah Seay.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Becky Ard Maddox; his four children, Tina Maier (Jay), Todd Maddox, Scott Maddox, and Nikki Seay (Keith); four grandchildren, Rebecca Maier Timbs (Brady), Tyler Landey, Devon Landey, and Sarah Maddox; three great-grandchildren, Callie, Derrick, and Marley Timbs; Two sisters, Linda Whatley(Dick) and Janet Firestine (Ron); one brother, Jerry Maddox (Dannie); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. A special thank you to Encompass Home Health and Hospice and to his caregivers, Jennifer and Jackie.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jay Maier, Keith Seay, Jerry Wilson, Joe Smith, Wayne Hancock, and Dick Whatley.
