ASHFORD. . .Reverend Ted Forrester, a resident of Houston County, between Webb and Columbia, passed away at his home. He was 91.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 21, 2024, in the Hebron Baptist Church with his daughters, Amy Forrester Mason and Starla Forrester Shattler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Victory, 363 Victory Circle, Samson, AL 36477.

Walter Ted Forrester was born on March 6, 1933 in rural Houston County, near the Greenfront community, three houses down from where he lived until his death on September 19, 2024. He graduated from Houston County High School in 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After four years of service, Ted returned to Auburn University where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959. More importantly, he would say that he met the love of his life, Betty Sue, at the Auburn Baptist Student Union. They were married in 1960 and were inseparable for the rest of his life.

Ted and Betty Sue served as missionaries in Puerto Rico for four years and returned to Forrester Farms, the family farm, in 1968 with twins Arnie and Amy. Starla was born the following year, and Ted was ordained as a pastor in 1971. He was bi-vocational, farming with his brothers and pastoring at Springvale Baptist Church in Springvale, GA for five years and Hebron Baptist Church, between Headland and Columbia for the next thirty-one years. After retiring as a pastor, Ted continued to teach Sunday School at Hebron Baptist Church and minister in the community. After retiring as a farmer, Ted continued to plant an enormous garden and shared with the community!

The joy of his life was his family. He was incredibly proud of his children and nine grandchildren and loved reading to them when they were little and hearing their stories when they grew up.

The hope of his life was his unwavering faith in Jesus. He lived that belief out everyday and left a beautiful legacy of love and hope.

Ted is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Sue, and children. Amy Forrester Mason (B.J.),  and Starla Forrester Shattler (Steve), a daughter-in-law, Lynn Forrester, his grandchildren, Rachel Chiang (Andy), Daniel Forrester, Faith Forrester, Camille Sigrist (Scott), Logan Mason (Claire), Robin Shattler, Reese Forrester, Trent Mason, Paige Forrester, and his brother, Charles Forrester.

Ted was preceded in death by his father, William Carl Forrester, his mother, Berrell Antley Forrester, a son, Arnie Forrester, a sister, Annette Forrester, and two brothers, Jackie Forrester and Glenn Forrester.
